We tried our best to not paint the hull. It was in good shape but for a number of reasons decided to paint it. The paint had a year or 2 left in it but what made the most sense in the long run was to paint the hull while the boat was here all ready to paint. The rub rails were off and the parts that we painted were all covered up. By the time we buffed out the hull and patched the little spots that need work we could have primed and painted the hull. We used Awlcraft 2000 so the paint job will be able to be polished. It will be white so the color fade will no be an issue if we need to patch things up. The current paint was really faded and the new patches would have been able to be seen. I sanded the hull one afternoon and Roberto primed it the next morning. Here she is with the primer on her.

Primer on the hull
Saturday, January 2nd, 2010New Covering Boards
Saturday, January 2nd, 2010We decided to cut off the old covering boards and put new ones on. The current ones were really thin for heavy tackle. If we were fishing lighter line I would have gone with what we had. We had under a 1/2 inch of boards left so here are a shots of the old boards getting cut off. The tuna tubes needed to get roughed in so we knew were the boards would end up. I molded the outside of the tubes so we could get it in place to know where the boards have to be cut. It is in right after it came out of the mold so it is still pretty rough here. Cutting the boards off and getting ready for the new ones was easy putting the new ones on is going to be hard. We are gathering enough clamps and dry fitting while we paint. Pictures of the new boards to come.
