The last circle. One more turn and gaff ‘em. See the Polu Kai Rocket Man Jet in the corner of this one’s mouth.

Famed California Captain Pete Grossbeck and his family with a nice spring catch. His son Alex showed it was like father like son catching this nice tuna our biggest for the season so far. We pulled the hook on a fantastic bite on the stick then our luck changed and we got a second chace. He followed up with his first marlin a few days later on the Bad Company where Pete is a member of the team. Congratulations Alex. I think dad is as happy as Alex with this one.

Famous Big Island Chef Hans Peter of Adelweis Restaurant in Kamuela and friends with another great day. They always seem to bring us the luck. The Great lunches must be the key. Rack of Lamb, Roast duck and Kamuela beef goes well with fishing. I think it is good luck and we should do this every day.

Jessica  Kelmer got this great shot of a blasting blue caught on a Marlin Magic Super Dog.

A September catch of yellowfin tuna and albacore. The night time action was good enough to have some fun. Although this was a great catch for us other boats were catching up to 40 a night. Great action and good eats.

This photo was taken by Anthony Hsieh of the 966 caught by Shawn McWinney right after they caught a 179 pound yellowfin tuna. Captain Steve Stymie Epstein at the wheel found the fish at the back of the boat looking for the tuna they just caught. Ready for the situation Tracy Epstein his son and my full time mate pitched a bait to him and began a cat and mouse game with her to get her to bite. After what seemed to be hours she made her move and ate the tune getting hooked on the outside of her mouth. After a tough battle she was spent and calling the fish around 800 they brought her in to weigh 966. Thanks to Anthony Hsieh for the great shots!

A good night fishing catch!

My wife Elizabete with half of a nice catch of yellowfin and albacore we caught when we got back from Madeira this summer while night fishing.

Free ride. He was smart he would sit in the outrigger and ride along and as soon as a flying fish would flush out from in front of the boat he would fly out a catch it. My advice on this is don’t stand underneath these when they are feeding.

Our friend flying out to get another flying fish!

A deep shot of Tracy wiring a nice one. This is about 3 minutes into a 5 minute wiring battle with this one. He did a great job on the leader using the tuna wrap most of the way to get her up. On this one he need to be strong a skillful to pop her up. I kept asking if he needed help and he kept say he was going to get her and he did. That was a tough one and I was impressed with his job on this one. Notice the bill on this fish. The memory I will have of this one is the length and girth of her bill. It was probably 36 inches long.

Nice day for the Elders. On vacation in Hawaii away from the beautiful Yacht they work on. What do true fishermen do on vacation? Go fishing- Glad we ran into each other in the airport. As you can see they both can fish. Great October day! The late season proved to be good once again this season. Good numbers of tuna in the schools but spotty at times. The marlin fishing a little on the slow side this late season but the odd one kept it interesting-

Dave Fender Charter - Large Blue Marlin & Nice Ahi

Dave Fender of California caught this nice fish at 5:30 one evening  on the way to go night fishing with us. It was an impressive bite on  our long teaser a Polu Kai Depth Charge and then an incredible bite  from the outside in on the short lure which was a Marlin Magic Super  Ruckus. After a 45 minute battle we had just enough light for  pictures and a good measurement of 11 foot short ( tip of the lower  jaw to the fork of the tail) before we set up for a night drift for  tuna. We caught a bunch of squid early in the night and at 1:00 we  caught a nice tuna that weight 121 pounds. We missed a marlin on the troll back home in the morning.
