Andre get the biggest of 2011
Tuesday, February 7th, 2012Noklby’s almost get one
Friday, December 30th, 2011Tday Chip Van Mols and I took out the Noklby Family for a day fishing on the 40 foot Gamefisherman. We had a long day of trolling until we saw a really nice fish come to the short bait. It came up all over the lure and didn’t bite. It looked well over 500 but it was hard to tell how much over it was. Big bill and big dorsal all over the lure. We waited for a bit and nothing. We turned around on the fish and and I never could raise the fish again. We worked the area outside the grounds for awhile with no action. As our day came close to an end we trolled back south to the harbor where we had a fish about 300 blow up on the long corner. We had about 300 yards of line out at one point and got it all back after 40 jumps. It seemed the fish was ours at that point it simply came with no trouble when the hook pulled. Great afternoon and had one close but it came 3 minutes away from getting a tag in it. I guess we got the best part of that one.
My Apologies
Friday, December 30th, 2011I apologize for my posts being late this season. It has been a great year with a ton of good action. We have been in the field so much working that it has been really hard to get in the office. I have been hoping to have the trips and stay busy fishing and hunting and thanks to all of you we have. The problem with this is it is hard to post. My New Years resolution is to post on time and be better at keeping up. For those of you who follow our website regularly I apologize to you for the spotty posting. The news is all there it is just a little late. If you don’t hear from me for awhile you know that we are busy in the field or at sea. This is a good thing!! With good luck we will have a bunch more catches and hunts to share with you. Aloha Kev
Team Hook And Bull Fish Kona
Tuesday, October 4th, 2011We had the pleasure of fishing with the top notch fishing team from New Zealand. The team fishes ultra light tackle for fish far about the ratio of the line. They had broken over 20 billfish records most of them in the last few years. Capt. John Batterton has been an old friend for years having fished many of the same hot spots all over the world. John’s anglers Guy and Erin stopped here on their way to fishing for the Blue fin tuna in Nova Scotia. They fished 2 days with us and we raised 2 fish. One we pitched the 2 pound test to and the fish fumbled the bait. The fish was about 120 pounds. Right when we were ready to get to work the fish dropped the bait. We worked the area and raised another fish around 300 pounds and we pitched the 8 pound test and it didn’t switch. I had a nice time with John catching up on the incredible catches they have been making.
Mat Finishes Up Summer
Tuesday, October 4th, 2011
Mat Bowman finished out the 2011 summer with a bang. The great tuna day with had with Geza capped off a great summer. Mat heads to the East Coast for the fall to run Maine Mobile Shrink Wrap with his partner Ben. They have a business that specializes in shrink wrapping boats and water towers and construction sites that need to be covered for the winter. He will be back in January after they are done with work and the holidays. Mat has been the do it all guy this summer. He has been my right hand with everything we are doing now. Had a great season as my mate but also did great as a captain of the 37 Merritt and been a great apprentice guide on our hunts. I am grateful to have had him back this season and look forward to seeing him in January when we get rolling again. Good duck hunting and fly fishing to you this fall- See you back soon Thanks again- Mat

Geza Gets the Tuna Again
Monday, October 3rd, 2011

Geza got the tuna on great timing on 2 great days. The fish have been in the dolphins and we were able to get on them pretty good. We had good action on the tuna stick and some luck live baiting for them. The fall can be hard fishing due to the small food fish the tuna find to eat. There are silver dollar looking bait and tiny squids that they eat. They sometimes drive us crazy because they won’t bite. The 2 days we spend fishing the dolphins were great. They saw what we had and they bit. 2 fun days and good to get Geza out finally after a busy summer of charters.

TART Day 5
Sunday, October 2nd, 2011We were excited going into the last day in second with the chance of possibly winning. If we weighted another fish 403 or better we could win. If we stayed fish for fish with the Ihu Nui we would get second. As the day unfolded the current shifted from good enough north to north and in. The fishing changed for the worse. The bait we were seeing move off shore which I thought would be good for trolling. The fish move off shore sometimes and we hoped to get on them. The bite shut down. We had Brent on board and hoped that we could help him up the leader board and hang on to second. Second went to third at 10:00 when the Ihu Nui went ahead of us again by one point. We all fished hard all day and none of the 5 boats got bit. The Ihu Nui tagged a fish at 3:00 for their second of the day and locking second for the tournament. The Humdinger ended up winning by 200 points. Jeff’s 5th TART win.
TART Day 4
Sunday, October 2nd, 2011We had Angelo on day 4 . We stared off trolling and stuck with it. The grounds looked great and the bait raced in and out on the ledge. We trolled through it all day and couldn’t believe we couldn’t get a bite. I slid down to the light and we finally caught a fish. We got a tag in a little guy that put us in second by 199 points. If the Ihu Nui tagged a fish they would go back to second by one point. That one point increased the drama for us. If we could catch another fish we would be better off going into the last day.It was a great tournament going into day 5 22 fish for the 5 boats in the 4 days of fishing.
TART Day One
Saturday, October 1st, 2011
Today we had Ken on board for day one. The day started off with a the Ihu Nui getting off to a fast start tagging one in the first 10 minutes. Before we could catch a bait the Humdinger tagged a fish right away. It was good to see the tournament off to a good start but we had our work cut out for us. We fished for bait the first day for 2 hours. During that time the Ihu Nui caught a second fish and the Humdinger tagged a second. When the Chiripa tagged 2 on a double we changed to lures and trolled lures due to our bait catching problem. We didn’t get any bites trolling. Frustrating for us but good to see the fish biting for the guys.
Steve Cireco Day One
Friday, September 30th, 2011
Steve Cireco Came back to fish with us again this year and his timing on the new moon couldn’t have been better. We started off with a fish that bit and took off getting us in the dacron right away. It was evident that something was wrong when it went down and we could see his tail beat. Unfortunately it came up dead in about 10 minutes. Brysen Ball got in to help Mat and I out is pictured here trying to revive him. It just didn’t make it. Sometimes in fishing a full season this happens. We have 2 or 3 sometimes not make it due to bad hook position. Great for Steve bad for his first fish of the trip.
